Definition of Procedure Text

Procedure Text is text whose contents are related to how to make, do, or operate something sequentially (in regular steps from beginning to end). Sometimes procedure text also mentions various materials or tools needed.

Purpose of Procedure Text

The communicative purpose of procedure text is to describe that something is done according to the rules through clear and regular steps. In other words, this type of text provides instructions on how to do something by taking the right order.

Generic Structure of Procedure Text

  • Goal/Aim (Tujuan)
    Goal or aim means a goal in making or operating something.

  • Materials (Bahan-bahan)
    Materials are the materials needed to do something. However, there are also Procedure Texts that do not require materials. For example, “How to use the computer.” (How to use the computer).

  • Steps (Langkah-langkah)
    This section contains the steps or sequences that must be carried out so that the objectives can be achieved. For the record, the Procedure Text in the form of "How to" usually does not mention (include) the material needed.
Notes for Materials.
There are 3 types of Procedure Text that do not use the materials section. Pay attention to the following explanation.
  • First, Procedure Text that explains how to work or how to do instructions manually.
    For example : How to use video game, the computer, the tape recorder, the fax, etc.

  • Second, Procedure Text which instructs how to do certain activities and the rules.
    For example : Road safety rules, video game rules, etc.

  • Third, Procedural Text related to human nature or habits.
    For example : How to live happily, atau How to succeed, etc.

  • Recipes/cookbooks
  • Craft instructions
  • Game rules
  • Science experiments/report


Features of Procedure Text

  • Using imperative sentence patterns (commands)
    For example : cut, don’t mix, etc.

  • Using action verbs
    For example : turn, put, don’t, mix, etc.

  • Using connectives (connective words) to sequence activities.
    For example : then, while, etc.

  • Using adverbials (adverbs) to state in detail the time, place, and accurate manner.
    For example : for five minutes, 2 hours, etc.

  • Using the simple present tense.

  • Usually use numbering, firstly, secondly, next, then, etc.

  • Explain the ingredients that are available, although not always present.

How To Use Camera


You need :
  • A digital camera (DSLR camera or pocket camera or the others camera that you have)
  • The object (find something that interesting to you like animals, buildings or the others)
Steps :
  • Handle the camera and turn on it.
  • Center the object in the lcd and manage the zoom control untill you get the best view
  • When you are ready to take the picture, hold the shutter speed, and various other calculations.
  • Then, a light should appear that let you know the camera is set to go.
  • After that, press shutter all the way down.
